The EU Deforestation Regulation bans placing products linked to deforestation on the EU market, or exporting them, unless they are proven deforestation-free, legal and covered by a due diligence statement.
EUDR covers cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soya and wood, and many products made from them, such as leather, chocolate, furniture, paper and tyres. Products must come from land not deforested after 31 December 2020, be produced legally in the country of origin, and be traceable to the plot of land through geolocation. Following the December 2025 amendment, only the operator who first places a product on the market files the due diligence statement.
