Australia's ASRS, in plain English.

Australia requires climate-related financial disclosures under the Corporations Act, using the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards issued by the AASB.

Status checked 24 September 2026. Rules change — always confirm against the official sources below.

What it is

AASB S2 (climate) is mandatory for entities in scope; AASB S1 (general sustainability) is voluntary. Disclosures sit in a sustainability report inside the annual report. Entities phase in by group based on size, with Scope 3 emissions required from the second reporting year and assurance rising to reasonable assurance by 2030. A limited modified-liability period applies to Scope 3, scenario analysis and transition plans.

Who is in scope

Group 1 — from 1 Jan 2025: two of revenue ≥ A$500m, assets ≥ A$1bn, ≥ 500 employees; or large NGER reporters
Group 2 — from 1 Jul 2026: two of revenue ≥ A$200m, assets ≥ A$500m, ≥ 250 employees; other NGER reporters; asset owners ≥ A$5bn
Group 3 — from 1 Jul 2027: two of revenue ≥ A$50m, assets ≥ A$25m, ≥ 100 employees, where material climate risks exist
